10K Fort Run for Change 19 Dec 2010

So anyways I haven’t written in awhile , well I think my last race for 2010 was awesome, like many things I do when i travel running  is running in the country I travel to.   So like in October I check  http://www.takbo.ph/ or the yahoo running group of  pinas(you have to search the yahoo group on your own sorry I don’t remember the link).

I have a physical schedule I arrive the pm of the 17th of Dec physical on the 18th so the races listed was for the 19th fit in just perfect.   There was to be two runs that morning one in Ortigas and the other  sa Fort.  Both places was going to be close to me since I stay on Kalaayan Ave in makati, so I didn’t mind.  Both runs was going to have a 5k or 10k. But basically I rather do a 10k or 1/2 marathon just for the fun of it.  So next thing look at what the benefits of the run, run for change at the fort was for a better  charity group so there you go fort shall be it.

I email the folks, i get a response and after a few email back and forth I get a confirmation i can do a race day registration which works out for me :-) .  So fast forward I arrive in Manila, physical the next day, sleep early the night before with a good meal and hydration.

Am of the 19th I ask Kuya Edwin to drive ko sa Fort,  Pretty much Kuyas been good with my early am  adventure to this running events.  First time I ran a race  in Pinas I ran without a shirt, after a few years of rethinking and weight gain I run with a singlet now days lol.   So I get up early I prepared my things the night before so no problem there, morning stretches, shave, etc.  Go down meet up with Kuya and off we go to  the fort.   I forgot the  exact name of the place but its on upper The Venica Piazzao on upper  McKinley  Road near Enderun College at the fort.

So here i am ready for the run hahaha——>

We get there an almost 30min prior to run, I go register

registration and bag tents

I see that its going to be a good crowd so I register and get everything ready, I knew I was going to have fun.  I always enjoy running, crazy as some people describe, but you know what what the hell right.   So anyways time for the 10k to start right, Im ok, not  super warmed up  so i figure who am I going to pace with (not always recommended as some people will do everything to get you off their tail hahaha)  Race starts various people but I pretty much looked like the forgienr as  I wore my purple singlet and a I lvoe Guam running cap  compared to the other folks that wore the singlet that came with the run (I usually save my running shirts and stuff hahaha)  I feel comfortable start pushing it a little up and down, I ran part of this course before so not too bad.  I finally  get  in a group  that is running a comfortable pace, ran the rest of the race with this group, I felt comfortable pushing here and there but not too bad.  All along the course where race  folks, of which I gues snot too many people acknowledge the, so like I do on  Guam, as I past them I said thank you or smiled and said good morning,  they  were like oh  good morning sir hahaha.

me and the course

I  like the honesty system to ensure people run the whole course where you have to get the different  strings they give you but I hate wearing them I always tie them to my race number pins hehehe.  Like I mentioned before I ran part of this course  at a prior 10k, so  it wasnt a super surprise on the hills and turns, I knew when to surge or back off.  Water points were awesome as they had capri sweat as well, minus factor Im so use to having people hand me the water and not me trying to grab from the table oh well not a major biggy.  After the turn around the group I was pacing with came down to 3 of us.  Not too bad kept the pace with them, I knew I wasn’t running with amateurs either as they knew when to surge or back off as well. Coming back was smooth sail in a way, nothing major as I wanted to surge a bit more  but I figured why not finish with this group.  Came up the hill back on to Lawton Ave, breathing was ok, not much wind kind of brought the temperature up so we came up on the right turn into  The Venica Piazza and  pace picked up a little bit finished at a moderate rate.  I was happy with my run as it was the holidays

Post run

right after the run with Capri

< Me right after the run yes I caught my breath a few seconds before the picture heheheheheh

So I stayed for a little bit of the post run events a nd top finishers, I wasn’t too please at the results as I know I was right behind the individual but yet the timing says i was a good 30seconds behind oh well.

me and the Bald Runner

Met up with  a  runner I met a a few times before, although I just found out he is a retired Col.  what a small world huh.    My time was 50min and 38 sec placed 16th out of 195 Im happy either way

I felt good doing this run since it was my last run of the year but at the same time not racing against anyone I know is even more fun.  Like I said the run was great weather so so but nothing like enjoying a great run  in a great country.  What more Im on vacation and I enjoy this kind of event.  Im going to end this blog here. I might write a part II  for the rest of my trip in Dec if I forgot something,  I thank the great many people that put the event together, the volunteers, runners, my good friends for always being there and my new great friend Rachelle and family
