Hafa Marthon Guam

Well Folks

I ran again, one hour 46 min official, for 13.1 miles, 3 months of training and in 3 weeks I run the full marathon 26.2miles.  Today’s run contained about i say 175 to 200 people, from Main gate AAFB Guam to Ypao, Tumon.  I started by waking 3am, shower getting my bag ready shower shave etc.  headed to Ypao,  asked my freind Leo to pick me up and drop me off to AAFB.   Was there a bus , yes did I take it no, guess I was embarrassed and etc 2 take the buss.  So anyways got to ypao about 410am, leo and Brian picked me up went up to AAFB,  gave those guys $10 for breakfast which your could get a pretty good batchoy or arizcolado at Jozies or in the flea market.

Knowing the winds are going to be blowing up there I was in my warm ups and  adidos warmups.  Wind was blowing and the other folks in their running shorts and things holding themselves to keep warm.  We all been there before so not sure why people don’t wear warmups to keep their muscles from getting cold IDK.

So I checked in my race number was 269 (lucky number huh LOL)  Well I stretched did my usual things before a long run pray tot he good lord get a goo stretch out and psychologically prep myself.

5AM comes along    Marsh comes along and explains to everyone about a few road problems and within mintues he starts us off,  being a long run I usually dont start slow and build my momentoum.  I felt goot my body felt good, except one part  my left arm had a few minor pains from a fall I braced my self with my left arm that left my left hadn and arm a bit in pain.    So I got running, pacing behind a few people first 3 miles tak it easy for the body.  Got to the first water stop near Yigo church I felt good picked it up a bit, from SSHS turn to Ysingsong I picked it up as I went along pacing behind few maintaining then picking up.  I felt good, no leg cramps or body aches other than  few pains from my left arm.

At about the Dededo Mayors office I caught up with a group of 4 so i paced with them broke down to 3 of us I stayed with them  to the turn into 2 Lovers.  Did I know my time not really actauyll no i stoped wearing a watch so I went with what my body felt and could give.  Frm the turn into 2 lovers tot eh turn around at the entrance at 2 lovers point < stayed with the 2 others I felt good all the way , making sure to maitain a certain pace but chill a bit when there was a up hill or 2.  From the Turn around to the exit of 2 lovers point road, i maintained a pace with the 2 at the turn on to marine drive I felt a little dragged so i slowed down a bit.   From austalian cable to I say burger king I mainted a  slightly slower pace but from Burger king  down I picked it up  prety good  passed a few people.  As I got to  the downhill from JFK I used the hill to my advantage all the way down to be able to catch up to Mark From marriott to ypao I ran a maintained a good kick all the way in .  i caught up to 2 kanos and a oriental guy, I felt pretty good as I turned passed the old ypao store now Proa I picked it to a sprint spedd( I dont know were the engery came about to kick the rest in LOL)  As I passed the 3  people I felt good going downhill, then my ear heard the  I think the oriental guy picking it up  I used arm action with long strieds all the way in I was zomming in basically, not really out of breath when I passed the  finish line but  just a slight shortness I greeted the folks the were behind me  filled out my card and went about.   When i was passing the finish line of course made a small glance at the time clock to see what the time was and I felt really glad.

Overall I found out today (08 March 2009) I did in fat came in 46th place  out of  208 runners with a time of 106min and 59sec( 1hr 46min 59 sec).  I felt good knwing this.  I also am determind to do better in my marathon in3 weeks.  I hope I can run a 1/2 marthon in Mnaila this coming June if not a 10k.  i look forward to accomplsihing a few runs off island that i know I can be at least in the numebr i hope and pray and train.

Over all I thanks everyone from GRC, the runners, freinds and God.  With out any of the folks  I metioned I would not have done what I had accomplished :-)

Gift of Life

Life is short life is precious life and fragile

What can we do for each other, that many will not do. I do want to brag but yet i want to educate. Im a regualr “PHERESIS” donor once a month I go to GMH our local and large hospital and sit in a chair like dyalsis andfor 6 cycles(actual 12 if you count the return) Im hooked to a machine for 2.5hrs. Does it hurt, nope, I actualyl fall asleep since I go towards endof the work day. I thank my boss for being udnerstanding what i choose to do is improtant for the poeple it may help. Before I use to be a regualr blood donor, now i doante what i tell my boss and co workers ‘blood by products”

i think of it as an honor to try to give something for nothing ( well almsot they give us a meal coupon in the caf downsatirs which I only collect) I was suppsoe to donate in the PI last year but go to busy, but I want to give soemthing back what other people won’t think of they take jst about a pint of plasma from me, but hey if i can give blood plsama so that another could live another day I am happy I may been given this award as donor of the year but i say everyone is a hero that was at the luncheon, only a few but yet we give what we can so that others can have a chance to smile another day or be with a loved one.

We lvie in a world were infaltion war and etc things are happening but I try to do the best to do my part, give blood doant plasma and if that will give a person anotehr hour so he or she can smile i am greatful, I hope more people can do the same but hey it is a chocie not soemthing to force upon, take care godbless everyonedonor-of-da-year

PIC 5k, 10k and 1/2 Marathon

YES I did it again the 5k and 10k

Just a over view here is their link to their website http://picrunning.com/, basically it’s a international run sponsored by PIC(Pacific Islands Club) which includes a 1/2marthon, 5k and 10k, yes they have cash prizes for top finishers and course record folks. For more information click on the link above

I did the PIC 5k and 10k back to back; many people ask why I do a 5k and then a 10k. I like the adventure and challenge of timing my 5k and knowing how much not to put out so I could also run the 10k at a reasonable rate and time. Not to mention hydration, mental and physical preparation and just over all not letting personal or work stress take part in your running

So anyways, the run being only 2 weeks after the KOKO ½ marathon, I wasn’t too bad of shape at least from my point. I felt good that morning got up about 3am wanted to get a good parking since they close the roads which is a good thing, did my usually morning routine, shave shower prep anything I forgot to prep. Got my bags, and went out to the car, I prepped a small bag for change of socks and drinks (Arizona power drink, Gatorade, and water). I planned it so I have at least 5min recovery between 5k and 10k. I figured run the 5k without a shirt and run the 10k with a shirt I think LOL. So I get there pretty early like by 1.5 hours, so I figured might as well get a few good minutes more of sleep Ville. Woke up from a text from Omar (running buddy) saying they were in the other parking lot and stuff, since being early I just walked out in slippers and greeted them. I was a nice morning a few clouds didn’t want it too be too hot either, a slight breeze.

So I get going greet them go back to my car rest up a little bit more. I wake up look at the time, I have about 10min to start of the 5k I grab my bag from the back of the car, say a little prayer, get my racing shoes on and off I go to start line, a slight warm up. I saw a few people I know amongst the runner, calling me crazy as usual HAHAHAHHA.

I hate it when the small kids who are inexperienced at running think they can go so fast to beat everyone that they are in the front. I really do admire their courage and want them to excel but at the same time, I hate to jump or trample over them.(no offense to anyone, I do apologize if I offend anyone) I try to stay in the front, so I wouldn’t get to held back. Got to the start line in front of budget rental a car, all four lanes closed off, but we would need to merge into two lanes in about 50meters, 3minutes to go, just visualizing the run, I figure I’ll enjoy my run as well. Then the count down, gun go off and off we go. After about 150-200meters is the first uphill or more known as JFK hill for the high school on the top of the hill. I run with a pack so far so good everything pace and insides seem ok, up the hill went up the pace I wanted to go with. Leveled off and went on my way, I would say I enjoyed my run till I got near SDA clinic decided to slow down to much that a few runners I was hoping to out run caught up, oh well. Went down the hill at a ok pace didn’t want to ride the hill down as I didn’t want to get tired from the hill ride down. Paced with my friend all the way to the finish 42 Raymond Yoshida 14 – 29 Dededo, GU :22:38 07:18 not too bad I say.

I go through the finish chute and get ready for the 10k. I didn’t really have a plan of pacing with a running partner but as I felt a slight fatigue so I figured running with mark would be good, got to my bag, which I hid near the start of the 10k changed my socks drank Gatorade and water, felt confident, also changed numbers as well I for got the last time and almost got DQed

Well the 10k start started moderate knowingly I had 3 hills to climb, paced out with mark starting from Mobil, felt pretty good went through the whole course I figured we were running a slow pace were running a 9min pace slow for me but I was running with mark so I ddnt mind enjoyed the whole run we finished listed below it was good

Fort Striders 3k, 5k & 10k The Start of New Life 4th OctobeRun Festival

“The Start of A New Life!”.

Well here I am again folks running in my favorite country Philippines I wasn’t able to catch a 1/2 marathon or a full marathon, but hey a 10k I’ll do as well.

I can say I woke up early as usually, I was hanging out with my friend at a greenbelt till 1am, then I excused myself since i had to wake up at 430am. I preprepared my running clothes and bag before I went out so it was good hen i got back i just showered and went to sleep. I had asked my kuya edwin(charged me about 1000php that day frm 515am till 830am pickup wait and drop back) to pick ako about 515 though the fort is only about 5-10min from where I stay i usually like enough time to get there, find out where the start is and warm up5-10min prior

Kuya edwin and ako before the run

Kuya edwin and ako before the run

Got to the fort and Kuya Edwin and I were looking at the map upside down which did not help much. So finally turned around and got to ROK. I really enjoy going to events in different countries. So i get ready put my shoes on take my warm up off and run a few laps. I look at the time just about ten min prior so I make my wake to the start get check off and get in. I was looking for anyone I recognized such as Sir Jovie. The run i chose not to be so bold and kept a black tank top on for this run. Race finally started, my plan was to take it easy and pick it up towards the turn around but of course in lew of the run I picked it up to early. The start was fun not a straight way start, fun having to glide with the group. I paced a few runners and kept a nice pace I though was comfortable. One problem, the sun was coming up and wala wind a light breeze is sometimes comforting during a during a run. So we make our way past the army camp, and for some odd reason, my right shoe lace comes slightly undone. I knew I double knotted my shoe, but oh well had to pull over with out getting into anyones way.

Which brings a excellent point, usually at a water point I pull my right arm out(being im right handed) and grab and go. At the first water stop(forgive me who ever I bumped into) I reached out my right hand grabbed water and i still kept going, but for some odd reason the runner in front of me decided to slow down to a stop. oh luckly it was a light bump but just being at these runs, i hate to lose momentum, oh well.

Well after I tie my shoe and gain to a point were I was at I felt pretty good but also a little temperature hot, IDK I didn’t get to acclimatize since i flew in the night before and I was leaving that same night. Well we made our way down hill and I really don’t remember were I was but Finally I got saw a few of the lead runners headed back. I like to look at the map prior to the run and get a idea of were to maintain or increase pace. I think I planned out pretty close. i would say about 1200-2000m frm the turn around Sir Jovie caught up to me, we spoke very briefly I maintained a pace behind him, but he still out did me. Turn around got the turn around red string and went on. I really like it how they have these things to ensure all runners made it to the turn around.

On the way up from the turn around the heat really started to get to me so I maintained a self pace, and slowed down a bit more. Finnaly got to the top and picked it up a bit. Paced behind a few runners and got back on track. Unfortently I started my watch after the 1st mile so I didn’t really maintain a good timing.

I realized where I was at so i picked it up a bit I paced behind a runner towards the finish but the heat again oh well near the turn to finish I couldn’t keep up with him so i slowed a bit as we came to the end

So after the run met walked around for a bit and finally saw Sir Jovie and got to talk to him a bit

-)

The bald runner and the bold runner :-)

Overall I enjoyed the course, the runners and all. One thing though I emailed the fort striders a few times, and every time they would not save me a number a number even if I mentioned I was off island and I would guarantee payment on the day of the event. They finally gave me a BDO account to deposit ako 250php but I was like its going to cost more to do a wire transfer. So I finally asked my friend is she could register me, which i did not want to bother her in her busy schedule but she was ok, bought her a good lunch when I got there. Though i did not get a shirt it was still a great run to be able to run with great people.

Sir Jovie mentioned about a 25k in Pampanga in Novemebr but seems my work is to busy for me to fly out, also walang pera diba. Oh well, hoepfully I could make it out again for another great run
