YES I did it again the 5k and 10k
Just a over view here is their link to their website http://picrunning.com/, basically it’s a international run sponsored by PIC(Pacific Islands Club) which includes a 1/2marthon, 5k and 10k, yes they have cash prizes for top finishers and course record folks. For more information click on the link above
I did the PIC 5k and 10k back to back; many people ask why I do a 5k and then a 10k. I like the adventure and challenge of timing my 5k and knowing how much not to put out so I could also run the 10k at a reasonable rate and time. Not to mention hydration, mental and physical preparation and just over all not letting personal or work stress take part in your running
So anyways, the run being only 2 weeks after the KOKO ½ marathon, I wasn’t too bad of shape at least from my point. I felt good that morning got up about 3am wanted to get a good parking since they close the roads which is a good thing, did my usually morning routine, shave shower prep anything I forgot to prep. Got my bags, and went out to the car, I prepped a small bag for change of socks and drinks (Arizona power drink, Gatorade, and water). I planned it so I have at least 5min recovery between 5k and 10k. I figured run the 5k without a shirt and run the 10k with a shirt I think LOL. So I get there pretty early like by 1.5 hours, so I figured might as well get a few good minutes more of sleep Ville. Woke up from a text from Omar (running buddy) saying they were in the other parking lot and stuff, since being early I just walked out in slippers and greeted them. I was a nice morning a few clouds didn’t want it too be too hot either, a slight breeze.
So I get going greet them go back to my car rest up a little bit more. I wake up look at the time, I have about 10min to start of the 5k I grab my bag from the back of the car, say a little prayer, get my racing shoes on and off I go to start line, a slight warm up. I saw a few people I know amongst the runner, calling me crazy as usual HAHAHAHHA.
I hate it when the small kids who are inexperienced at running think they can go so fast to beat everyone that they are in the front. I really do admire their courage and want them to excel but at the same time, I hate to jump or trample over them.(no offense to anyone, I do apologize if I offend anyone) I try to stay in the front, so I wouldn’t get to held back. Got to the start line in front of budget rental a car, all four lanes closed off, but we would need to merge into two lanes in about 50meters, 3minutes to go, just visualizing the run, I figure I’ll enjoy my run as well. Then the count down, gun go off and off we go. After about 150-200meters is the first uphill or more known as JFK hill for the high school on the top of the hill. I run with a pack so far so good everything pace and insides seem ok, up the hill went up the pace I wanted to go with. Leveled off and went on my way, I would say I enjoyed my run till I got near SDA clinic decided to slow down to much that a few runners I was hoping to out run caught up, oh well. Went down the hill at a ok pace didn’t want to ride the hill down as I didn’t want to get tired from the hill ride down. Paced with my friend all the way to the finish 42 Raymond Yoshida 14 – 29 Dededo, GU :22:38 07:18 not too bad I say.
I go through the finish chute and get ready for the 10k. I didn’t really have a plan of pacing with a running partner but as I felt a slight fatigue so I figured running with mark would be good, got to my bag, which I hid near the start of the 10k changed my socks drank Gatorade and water, felt confident, also changed numbers as well I for got the last time and almost got DQed
Well the 10k start started moderate knowingly I had 3 hills to climb, paced out with mark starting from Mobil, felt pretty good went through the whole course I figured we were running a slow pace were running a 9min pace slow for me but I was running with mark so I ddnt mind enjoyed the whole run we finished listed below it was good
